Before You Apply
Main rule: the vacancy notice decides eligibility.
Best time: check before paying any application fee.
Use for: government and private-sector vacancies.
Start With the Rule Behind the Vacancy
Job eligibility means meeting the conditions that the employer or recruiting authority treats as necessary for a particular post. Depending on the vacancy, these may include academic qualification, specialization, experience, age, domicile, quota, professional registration, physical standards or a specified cutoff date.
The wording matters. “Bachelor's degree,” “Bachelor's degree in Computer Science,” and “16 years of education in Computer Science from a recognized institution” should not be treated as identical requirements.
FPSC's General Instructions provide candidate guidance for federal general recruitment and explain that candidature remains subject to the applicable eligibility conditions and scrutiny during the recruitment process. FPSC General Instructions — Updated 12 August 2026
Government Jobs vs Private Jobs
Government Jobs
The official advertisement, applicable recruitment rules, cutoff date, domicile or quota conditions and prescribed documents normally control eligibility. Any later corrigendum or official correction should also be checked.
Private Jobs
The employer's job description and hiring policy control the process. Some conditions may be essential, while wording such as “preferred” or “desirable” can indicate an advantage rather than an automatic disqualification.
Required, Preferred and Equivalent Requirements
Required / Must / Mandatory
Treat the condition as essential unless the employer or recruiting authority officially states otherwise.
Preferred / Desirable
This usually indicates an advantage. Do not automatically treat a preferred criterion as mandatory unless the vacancy says so.
Equivalent Qualification
Use only the equivalence permitted by the advertisement, recruitment rules or competent authority. Do not decide that two qualifications are equivalent yourself.
Relevant Experience
Check whether the recruiter requires work in a particular field, role, organization type or a period completed after obtaining the qualifying degree.
Your 2026 Eligibility Screening Map
Read the complete advertisement once, then review each requirement separately. Also inspect notes below tables, footnotes and any later official correction.
Read Academic Requirements Without Guessing
Copy the qualification sentence from the advertisement into a note and compare it with the exact wording on your degree and transcript. Check the subject, degree duration, academic division or CGPA, institution recognition and any professional accreditation mentioned.
- Degree level: Matric, Intermediate, DAE, Bachelor's, Master's, MS, MPhil or PhD should match the stated level.
- Required field: a degree in another subject is not automatically acceptable simply because it appears related.
- Recognition: where required, confirm the university or degree-awarding institution through HEC. HEC Recognised Universities
- Equivalence: use the relevant competent-authority process rather than deciding equivalence yourself. HEC Equivalence Service
- Completion date: verify whether your final result was officially declared by the eligibility date stated for the vacancy.
Measure Age and Experience the Right Way
Age Calculation
Find the minimum age, maximum age and relevant cutoff date in the vacancy notice. Compare your official date of birth with that date. PPSC's official FAQ provides guidance on common recruitment and eligibility questions, but the exact advertisement and applicable rules still control an individual post. PPSC Official FAQs
Do not assume that an age relaxation used in one recruitment will automatically apply to another. Eligibility can depend on the authority, category, service status and applicable recruitment rules.
Experience Calculation
Separate experience gained before and after the qualifying degree. If a vacancy specifically requires post-qualification experience, earlier work may not satisfy that condition.
An experience certificate should make it possible for the recruiter to verify the organization, role, employment period and relevant duties. Whether internships, part-time work, freelance activity or self-employment count depends on the wording and evidence accepted for that particular recruitment.
Follow This Five-Step Verification Routine
Use this routine before submitting an application, especially where an application or testing fee is involved.
Open the latest official notice
Check for a revised advertisement, corrigendum, extension or updated instruction.
Mark every mandatory requirement
Highlight education, age, experience, domicile, registration, quota and cutoff dates.
Match each requirement with evidence
Connect each condition to a degree, CNIC, domicile, certificate, licence or other record.
Resolve unclear wording through the authority
Use official FAQs, instructions or helpdesks instead of relying on unofficial comments.
Submit consistent information
Make sure dates, marks, experience and identity details agree with your supporting records.
60-Second Eligibility Self-Check
A “No” or uncertain answer against a mandatory condition should be verified before you submit the application.
| Requirement | Evidence & Match |
|---|---|
| Qualification | Degree + transcript Match: Yes / No |
| Age | DOB + official cutoff date Match: Yes / No |
| Experience | Relevant certificates Match: Yes / No |
| Domicile / Quota | Supporting records Match: Yes / No |
| Registration | Valid licence / registration Match: Yes / No / N/A |
| NOC | Departmental permission if required Match: Yes / No / N/A |
Five Hypothetical Examples That Show Why Wording Matters
These examples are for explanation only and do not describe the conditions of a specific vacancy.
- 1. Relevant degree: If a post asks for a BS in Computer Science or Information Technology, a general BA should not be treated as eligible unless the vacancy wording or an authorized equivalence includes it.
- 2. Post-qualification experience: If two years of post-qualification experience are mandatory, work completed before obtaining the qualifying degree may not satisfy the condition.
- 3. District domicile: If a vacancy is reserved for candidates holding a particular district domicile, merely living or working in that district does not replace the required document.
- 4. Age cutoff scenario: A candidate may be within the stated maximum age today but outside it on the vacancy's official cutoff date, or vice versa. The date specified in the recruitment conditions controls the calculation.
- 5. Registration-expiry scenario: If valid professional registration is mandatory, an expired registration may create an eligibility issue even when the candidate has the required academic qualification.
Build Your Application Evidence Folder
No single document checklist applies to every job. These are useful preparation items that are commonly relevant, not guaranteed requirements for every vacancy:
- Valid CNIC and any photographs required by the application process
- Domicile certificate where provincial or district eligibility applies
- Matric and Intermediate certificates and mark sheets
- Degree, transcript and any required equivalence or attestation
- Experience certificates showing clear dates and duties
- Professional registration, licence or technical certificate where relevant
- NOC or departmental permission where officially required
- Fee receipt, submitted application copy and tracking information where applicable
Upload readable documents in the format and file size requested by the relevant portal. Keep originals secure and present them for verification only when instructed by the recruiting authority.
Avoid These Common Eligibility Traps
- Matching only the degree level while ignoring the required subject or specialization.
- Counting experience that does not fit the relevant or post-qualification wording.
- Selecting a domicile or quota category that your documents do not support.
- Assuming an age relaxation without checking the applicable rules.
- Entering dates, marks or experience information that differs from your records.
- Using an old application procedure without checking the current project instructions.
For NTS-managed recruitments, use the official Candidate Portal and read the instructions published for the specific project rather than assuming that one procedure applies to every recruitment. NTS Candidate Portal
Eligibility Questions Job Seekers Often Ask
Is there one eligibility rule for every job in Pakistan?
No. Qualification, age, experience, domicile and document conditions can differ by vacancy. For government recruitment, always check the current official advertisement and applicable authority instructions.
Can I apply if my degree title is slightly different?
Apply only when the advertised wording includes your qualification or an authorized equivalence supports it. For recognition or equivalence questions, check the relevant HEC guidance where applicable.
Does general age relaxation apply to every government job?
No universal relaxation should be assumed. Always check the vacancy advertisement, official cutoff date and applicable recruiting-authority rules.
Can a result-awaiting candidate apply?
Only when the relevant recruitment conditions allow it. Check the vacancy instructions to confirm when the required qualification must be completed or officially declared.
Does appearing in a test prove that I am eligible?
Not necessarily. Some recruitment processes may allow candidates to proceed provisionally before detailed scrutiny. Always check the relevant recruiting authority's candidate instructions.
Where should I confirm an unclear eligibility condition?
Start with the recruiting authority's current advertisement, corrigendum, FAQ and official helpdesk. For degree recognition or equivalence, use the relevant HEC service where applicable.
Apply When the Requirements and Your Evidence Match
A reliable eligibility check compares each important requirement with evidence rather than relying only on the job title or degree level. Check the stated cutoff date, distinguish mandatory requirements from preferences and resolve uncertain wording through the appropriate official source before submitting the application.
